Summer Life Hacks
1. Skip FOMO, Plan Summer Activities
One of the best summer hacks is to acknowledge the fear of missing out (FOMO). It’s what causes most of us to have a summer slump in productivity. The only way to combat it is to acknowledge it.
Plan what you want to do in summer 2025, from hitting the beach with friends to a weekend city break.
Incorporate these activities into your schedule to give you a work-life balance that keeps you motivated and productive.
2. Reward Yourself for Your Hard Work
Just like getting a gold star in school, we all need something to work towards. Setting these rewards is a great way to stay productive during summer.
One of my favourite summer hacks, this addresses our psychological need to be rewarded, while also giving our brain a break.
Choose summer-specific rewards, like your favourite iced coffee for getting through the workday or tickets to a musical festival for finishing up a project or hitting a milestone goal.
3. Learn Something New
Beat the summer slump by learning something new. Everything needs to be a little slower in the summer months, giving you the perfect window to focus on learning a new skill.
Continuous learning is one of the best ways to boost your employability and can help you become an all-round better person.
Apps like Duolingo can help kickstart your language learning or you can sign up for a Masterclass from hundreds of industry-leading professionals.
4. Hydration, Hydration, Hydration
Most of us associate the winter months with getting sick, but it’s just as easy to become ill during summer. Dehydration is the biggest culprit! One of the top summer hacks to keep cool is to stay on top of your hydration.
Whether you’re a Hydro Flask, Stanley Cup, or Owala fan, keep re-filling your water bottle and try to drink 2 litres throughout the day.
5. Create a Summer Routine
If you follow any of the summer life hacks on this list, make it this one! Creating a routine is what will keep you productive during summer.
Even if you’re graduated and have a full-time job, summer is when we all struggle to stick to a routine. Build your routine around your workflow and summer priorities.
6. Forget Spring, Do a Summer Clean
Your surroundings reflect your mental state – and that goes for more than just your desk. Get a head start for your productive summer activities by taking the time to clean up and organize your space.
Create a space you’ll feel comfortable working in. If you live in a hotter climate, it’s a good idea to be proactive and get a fan for your desk and stock up on healthy snacks.
7. Practice Mindfulness
What you do in summer will set you up for success in winter. Most of us feel better about ourselves during summer – seasonal affective disorder impacts 1 in 3 people in the UK – so it’s the perfect time to start practising mindfulness.
This is one of my favourite summer tips for students, especially if you’re about to enter a stressful academic year. Download an app like Headspace or try incorporating yoga into your daily routine.
8. Experiment with Timeboxing
Timeboxing is one of the best cheat codes to growth, boosting your productivity while helping you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
This summer hack is a productivity technique that involves splitting your schedule into timeboxes and assigning specific tasks to each box.
It’s an easy way to boost your productivity and reduce distractions, giving you more time to enjoy the sun and socialise with friends.
9. Work Outside and Enjoy the Sun
Don’t lock yourself inside during the summer. This is one of the easiest summer hacks to try.
Grab your laptop or books and head outside to work. Most cafes will offer outdoor seating, or you can grab a cool drink and head to your local park.
Make sure your devices are fully charged and that you’ll have Wi-Fi access.
10. Focus on Long-Term Projects
Even in today’s unpredictable economy, we’re surrounded by opportunities to start a side hustle or build a business. Summer is the perfect time to start chipping away at long-term projects.
Whether you’re learning a new skill or researching a potential business idea, use the summer months to focus on one major goal.
11. Jump on the Audiobook Hype
Getting outside more is one of the summer life hacks we all naturally embrace – but you can take it to the next level by jumping on the audiobook hype.
There are millions of audiobooks to suit every industry, from financial freedom to fantasy books and autobiographies.
Treat yourself to an Audible subscription and start listening to audiobooks during your daily walks or while you’re heading to the beach. Audiobooks are my go-to for travel days and a lifesaver for long flights!
12. Embrace the Early Mornings
Summer is when you should be a morning person. While you don’t need to become a member of the 5 am club, getting up a little earlier can help you beat the heat and be more productive.
